Day 9, 6/5 Sun
The day being our final day in Tokyo, we decided to hit the salon after much contemplation. I did a perm while Serene had a cut. Though my curls lasted a mere 1-2 months, the nature of most Japanese hair fixes, the salon had great head massages I must say! We went our separate ways after that, as Serene had to meet a friend at Ikebukuro and I didn't want to tag along as we've been there several evenings back.
I opened the map and pointed to Roppongi. By foot, it seems near enough.
Roppongi 六本木
And so with instructions from the hotel and a map on hand, I trotted from the backdoor of our Akasaka apartments to Tokyo Midtown and then to Roppongi (Roppongi Hills specifically) in gloomy overcast skies. The entire journey was about a subway station's distance apart.
It started to drizzle mid-way and the rain got heavier. Fortunately I was near Tokyo Midtown and seeked refuge. An artsy and up-market kind of place. What would you expect when Ritz Carlton is located here? I combed almost the entire complex, from the supermarket, the foodcourt, right down to the shops... and came out empty handed. But I got a glimpse into how the upper class or expats lived in Tokyo.
Soon as the rain subsided, I continued on to Roppongi. It was nice wandering the streets in the light drizzle. Asking for directions along the way to keep my bearings in check, I finally got to my destination in one piece. There was a huge tarantulla sculpture (Maman) marking the entrance. Roppongi Hills felt much like Midtown but more intensified as the whole compound was larger. The only difference it made to me - From there, I had my very first glimpse of Tokyo Tower.
That's all for my Tokyo 2007 travels.
